Additional Details

first edition. An attack on the character of Toussaint and the Revolution in Haiti, stressing violence and attacks on whites. A striking frontispiece shows a well-dressed Toussaint standing among a mob of blacks attacking innocent whites, many of them women and children. Less than a year after the publication of this little book, Napoleon tricked Toussaint into a meeting to discuss a settlement on the issue of Haitian independence. There he was seized and placed on a ship bound for France where he was locked in a dungeon in the mountains. Toussaint died later in 1803. RARE, OCLC locates only 4 copies.
